Zambian Athletics Coach Ntasuwila Namukonda recently participated in the WISH (Women in Sport High Performance Pathway) program's residential session at the University of Hertfordshire (UH) in the United Kingdom, taking place from August 20 to 26, 2023. This program, which spans from May 2023 to January 2025, aims to empower promising female coaches in reaching prominent positions within their sports. Namukonda earned her spot in this program through her impressive individual accomplishments, potential, and ambitions. She was selected by the International Federation of Athletics (World Athletics), in conjunction with Zambia Athletics and the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ). Reflecting on her experience during the residential session, Namukonda praised the enriching and informative sessions, which covered various topics including leadership skills and conflict management. She expressed gratitude to the WISH program for the opportunity to enhance her coaching expertise. The WISH program, coordinated by the University of Hertfordshire (UH) and delivered by Females Achieving Brilliance (FAB), receives support from Olympic Solidarity (OS) and the International Federations (IFs) of the participants. The program encompasses: - A 5-day residential session in the UK. - Self-assessment and 360-degree feedback on leadership and sport-specific competencies. - 8 online leadership sessions. - 8 leadership mentor sessions. - 4 sport-specific mentor sessions. - Access to a diverse network of coaches from various regions, sports, and cultures. The WISH program offers a valuable platform for female coaches to enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and establish connections with coaches worldwide. The NOCZ is confident that Coach Namukonda, who is also a trained International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) Coach Developer, will greatly benefit from this program and propel her coaching career to new heights. This program aligns with the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) objectives for gender equality and inclusion from 2021 to 2024, emphasizing the advancement of women's representation in leadership roles within sports.
