In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Zambia's rising female flyweight boxer, Margaret Tembo, secured a resounding victory by knocking out Senegal's Dieynaba Diallo in the very first round at the ongoing Africa Boxing Road to Paris 2024 qualifying tournament in Dakar. Despite the Zambian camp facing some challenges in previous bouts, Tembo, who had to move up a weight class in her pursuit of an Olympic ticket, wasted no time in making her mark. She entered the ring with caution but quickly escalated the tempo midway through the first round, cornering Diallo and forcing South Korean referee Kim Jihyun to step in and save the West African boxer from further punishment. The bout was brought to a halt at just two minutes and twenty-seven seconds into the first round. The result was met with excitement from the Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) President, Dan Chiteule, who praised Tembo's progress and noted her growing experience and exposure. "This is a very good result; her experience and exposure are showing. She's making good progress, and she is one of the two women we took to the Commonwealth Games. It's a positive step forward for her," he said. While Margaret Tembo celebrated her impressive victory, the Zambian male boxers faced a tougher day in the ring. Andrew Chilata, in the lightweight division, had a challenging match against Algerian Jugurtha Bekka, with all five judges ruling against the Zambian. In another bout, Zambian boxer Hildah Nkawe faced Ethiopian Aggerie Bayew and was defeated in a closely contested match.
