The Zambia National Pool Team is preparing for the SA Pool Championships, as Master Coach Teddy Banji Hambayi announces an 8-man Masters Team. This category is for players aged 40 and over, marking Zambia's historic entry into this field. They aim to make their mark at this year's Hawley Cup and African Championships in South Africa, scheduled for October. The championships will feature Men's and Women's categories, U23, and Seniors. Teddy Banji Hambayi and Frank Chulu conducted trials in recent months to select players for the Masters Category, which is open to both men and women. The selection process involved a league with over 40 players from the Black Ball League and the Madalaz Social Pool League, held at venues like Spice Restaurant, Midpoint Sports Café, Oasis Pub & Grill, and Flintstones. The coaching staff has finalized the team, which will undergo intensive training in preparation for the championships. Zambia, having won the Africa Championships they hosted last year and ranked 2nd in the last World Cup Championships in Morocco, aims to defend their title and further establish themselves as a pool powerhouse in Africa. The Masters team for Zambia includes former Zambia Pool Union President Tom Michelo, ladies' Team Coach Bongani Maano, Amos Banda, Godfrey Mweemba, Shahid Saiyed, Juma Chilonga, Oline Yona, Shiku Liyena, and Mark Msimuko, with Frank Chulu as a super substitute. Pool is not only a growing sport in Zambia but also gaining recognition on both the African continent and the global stage.
